Fast growing global business activities require a highly efficient, flexible and inexpensive infrastructure for meeting these requirements. Besides topics such as collaboration and knowledge management, Fiberworks has focussed especially on the needs of its clients in communication matters, and offers professional solutions.
The biggest disadvantages of conventional VoIP implementations are mainly the fluctuating quality of speech and inadequate availability. But telephones have to work all the time. We have come to expect high availability here, with a simultaneous high quality of speech.
Almost all VoIP providers, however, operate almost exclusively on a fixed price basis, and provide services basically for private users who make use of Internet telephony for cost savings.
But business customers have entirely different requirements. Besides cost savings, some of the main factors that play a decisive role here are:
- flexibility for international business locations and teams
- linking of telephone units (user extensions)
- secure communications
- uniform extension numbers
- accessibility
- reliability
A company with several locations can, thus, link up or network the telephone installations (e.g. FiberPhone) through the WAN or VPN (e.g. Fiberworks SecureNet). This also means, for instance that:
- all user extensions can be reached across the world, easily, by direct dialling.
|
- all conversations within the company remain absolutely private (secure against tapping) and free of cost
|
- expensive dedicated lines can be dispensed with (see also Fiberworks SecureNet)
|
- existing infrastructure (trunks) such as analog, ISDN, PMX or VoIP can continue to be used from all locations: e.g., a call from England to Germany can be put through via a German flat rate, without incurring additional costs for the same. Your telephone number in Germany could ring in your hotel room in New York, and you can even answer it there: and conversely, you can not only make largely free telephone calls from all over the world, but also use your accustomed telephone number to your partners in conversation.

However, a few technical pre-requisites are necessary if VoIP has to be used professionally and in a meaningful manner.
Some of these challenges are as follows:
- an open, unencrypted SIP protocol
- use of UDP and RTP with dynamic ports (very cumbersome for firewalls and network security)
- bandwidth fluctuations
For this reason, Fiberworks offers components that are matched for mutual compatibility. We recommend our SecureNet firewall systems. These systems implement in-depth "Quality of Service" technologies. With these, it becomes possible to any kind of VoIP traffic can be prioritised suitably and forwarded for telephony and web conferencing. Together with a well laid network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, or even a dedicated LAN for telephony), the customary telephone standard can also be guaranteed with VoIP.
FiberTel provides the necessary scheduling at high quality. Our servers are linked as per the highest standards with high-end reserves in one of the largest computing centres of Europe, with broadband.
To use FiberTel, Fiberworks recommends the SSL VPN Technology used in the SecureNet. This is also available for PCs, Notebooks and mobile handsets (Fiberworks Connect / Power VPN) in the form of a certificate-based VPN Client.
